Questions

Before you host

Do I need to be good at acting?

No. Every guest's phone gives them complete lines to read aloud in each round, and questions to ask, so even a shy guest always has something ready.

Do guests have to wear masks?

It is much more fun if they do, and any mask works. Each character has a named mask, and a paper name card does the job if someone forgets theirs.

Can the host play?

Yes. The solution is sealed, and the host reads the Inspector's words from the host page without knowing where they lead.

What if a guest cancels on the day?

Six characters carry the story and the other eight can be dropped one by one. If one of the six cancels, the host reads that character's witness statement aloud and the evening still works.

How long does it take?

About two hours of play, three with dinner. It is written to be played between courses.

Is it only for New Year's Eve?

It is set on New Year's Eve 1926, and it suits any masquerade, Mardi Gras or birthday party where people like to dress up.

Is it right for teens?

Yes. It is written for adults and plays well with teens: the one death happens off stage, and nothing graphic is shown or described.

Can I play it twice?

With new guests, yes. The murderer is the same each time, so not with the same group.

How many people can play?

Any number from 6 to 14. Every guest plays a character of their own, with lines to read aloud in every round, and the price is the same for a table of 6 or of 14.

Do I need a printer?

No. The whole evening plays on your guests' phones, and you run it from a tablet or your own phone. Prefer paper? The complete printable kit is included.

What do we need on the night?

A phone for every guest and an internet connection at the table. Each guest opens their own link in the phone's browser. A tablet is handy for the host; a phone does the job too.

What happens after I pay?

Your private host page opens at once, and we email you the link. Add your guests there and send each one their character. On the night you run the evening from that page. Keep the link; it is your key.

Is this a boxed game?

No. Nothing ships. It plays on your phones, and the printable kit is a download: print it at home, or send the single print file to a print shop.

Do the characters have to match my guests?

No. Anyone can play any character. Half the fun is who ends up as whom.

Can I give it as a gift?

Yes. Buy it, then forward the private host page link to the person who will host.
